Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed everyone what Nancy's Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American Taxpayers, for the thousands of gallons of fuel every week.

Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California , cost to the taxpayers of about $60,000  one way!

As Joe put it, 'Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday Night.' Cost to us is another $60,000.  Folks, that is

$480,000 per month and that is an annual cost to the taxpayers of $5,760,000.  No wonder she complains about the cost of this war...it might cramp her style and she is styling, on my back and yours.

I think of the military families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the most do-nothing Congress in the history of this country, keeps fueling that jet while doing nothing.


Madame Pelosi wants you and me to conserve our carbon footprint. She wants us to buy smaller cars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and pump up our tires.

These people are nuts.

After all, when you sweep aside all the complexities of how cap and trade operates–and make no mistake, this is the most convoluted attempt at economic central planning this nation has ever attempted–the bottom line is that cap and trade works by raising the cost of energy high enough so that individuals and businesses are forced to use less of it. Inflicting economic pain is what this is all about. That is how the ever-tightening emissions targets will be met.

Beyond the cost impact on individuals and households, Waxman-Markey also affects employment, and especially employment in the manufacturing sector. We estimate job losses averaging 1,145,000 at any given time from 2012-2035. And note that those are net job losses, after the much-hyped green jobs are taken into account. Some of the lost jobs will be destroyed entirely, while others will be outsourced to nations like China and India that have repeatedly stated that they’ll never hamper their own economic growth with energy-cost boosting global warming measures like Waxman-Markey.

Overall, Waxman-Markey reduces gross domestic product by an average of $393 billion annually between 2012 and 2035, and cumulatively by $9.4 trillion. In other words, the nation will be $9.4 trillion poorer with Waxman-Markey than without it.

Even there, the economic damage would be bad enough, but the citizens in the rest of the country and their representatives should really be asking many tough questions about the economic impact of cap and trade. ABC Shilling for Gun Control

The mendacity of ABC is already well known.
Their 20/20 piece on guns takes them to a lower level yet.
In John Lott's examination of ABC's shameful hit piece on our 2nd Ammendment rights he compares it to their onetime low of faking the exploding gas tanks.
Once again, they are willing to make outrageous statements like, "If you are wondering where are all the studies about the effectiveness of gunes used by ordinary Americans for self-defense, well keep searching, we could not find one reliable study and the ones we found were contradictory."
Mr. Lott cites 26.
The word obdurate can apply to these who will always remain indestructibly ignorant of the truth.
One thing I found interesting was that the Columbine shooting spree coincided with the day that the "state legislature had scheduled final passage of the concealed handgun law."
He also dispels the myth about gunshows being a haven for illegal gun purchases.
All in all, I find ABC despicable in their abandonment of even rudimentary journalistic ethics.

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

What Ward Would You Attend?

Find your niche in specialty wards

Most Sunday mornings, you'll find me on a pew in the Rosecrest 1st Ward chapel. It's where I'm supposed to go to church. Lucky for me, it's also where I want to go. Technically, Mormons don't have a choice. For church, we're bound by the geography of the ward boundary. We worship where we live. The only time Mormons can switch wards without also contacting a Realtor is when we attend specialty wards. For example, I went to a Spanish-speaking ward in West Jordan for a while.

Specialty wards allow members with specific common needs to worship together and support each other in their exclusive part of the Lord's vineyard. There are (or have been) lots of LDS specialty wards, including singles wards, college wards, deaf wards, ethnic wards. There are even seasonal "snowbird wards" in places where Mormon RV owners congregate.

I talked it over with my friend (despite a restraining order) Ken Wallentine. We think the specialty-ward idea needs to be improved on in our ever-changing and increasingly divided culture.

For example, there needs to be a late ward, a ward Mormons who are perpetually late for church could attend and not feel bad about dragging their herd in 15 minutes late. The only problem with a late ward would be showing up late for a meeting that was supposed to start late in the first place. Eventually, you would end up with a ward that ran out of time before it started... "Welcome to the Tardy 3rd Ward, brothers and sisters. We will close now by singing hymn No. 145."

Given the high birthrate among Mormons, I thought about the need for maternity wards. Except that we already have those. They're called married student wards.

A Star Trek ward might do well. The bishop would preside from "the bridge" instead of the stand. High-council Sunday would be referred to as a "Klingon Sunday."

Harley riders congregate to the exclusion of just about everyone else. Why not an LDS biker ward? White shirts and neckties go well with black leather...

Ken really wants to attend a concealed-weapons ward. He says church would be a lot more interesting if real personal risks were involved in disagreeing with a lesson.

There could be a texting ward for teenagers. Bear your testimony with your thumb. In 25 years, they'll all belong to carpal-tunnel wards.

At the less-active ward, maybe there'll be a meeting and maybe there won't.

Testimony meeting in an anger-management ward might be interesting. Nobody's going to sleep through, "HEY! I KNOW THE CHURCH IS TRUE, STUPID!"

A big hit would be the Multi Level Marketing ward, also known as a "Gadianton robber ward." With all the financial scamming that goes on in this culture, it would be nice to have them all in one place for a three-hour block weekly.

I think a Democrat ward is a good idea, although in Utah the best we could probably hope for is a Democrat branch...

More on Black Car Ban

At first, we all thought this was an April Fool's joke. Coming from the halls of academia, nowadays, it is difficult to sift through all the absurd just to find something ridiculous.

However, Daniel Sperling has created a considerable uproar with his proposal to ban black cars in California. Why? Because they absorb more heat and use more air conditioning to keep cool. That uses more gas and using gas is bad.

What will be interesting is how this is implemented since many people will insist on purchasing 'cars of color'. Like the KNOX device, and other California after market albatrosses, the coating will have to be applied after production and probably somewhere in California. This will create problems with the already draconian Coatings Rules In California, where not so much as a fart goes unregulated.

Since California is so heavily populated in some areas, and the freeway system was intentionally made inadequate, (didn't know that? Ask Jerry), so as to curtail vast expansion into the surrounding environments, there are a lot of cars sitting on one place. In fact, you have millions of cars idling on freeways that are falling apart (and that's another issue).

Bottom line: Painting a car 'muddy brown' so that it will use less air conditioning in the middle of rush hour can only come from the mind of someone who thinks that more and more regulations will set the people free.

California has the worst credit rating in the union. Businesses are so over regulated and over taxed that people are fleeing in droves.

What Sperling needs to realize is that every week some doomsayer comes along with another book that feeds institutional cynicism, creates panic, and costs tons of money.

Top Pain Scientist Fabricated Data in Studies, Hospital Says

From the WSJ:
"A prominent Massachusetts anesthesiologist allegedly fabricated 21 medical studies that claimed to show benefits from painkillers like Vioxx and Celebrex, according to the hospital where he worked."

For me this amounts to Captain Renault exclaiming: "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!" Having seen what goes on inside some publishing institutions, and how common conflicts of interest are swept under the carpet, the crime is in getting caught.

If patients were to find out just how ineffective and dangerous many of the pills they are taking can be, they would be outraged; along with all the Captain Renault's of the medical community running around in their private airplanes, homes in the Catskills, and speed boats at Nantucket, that were had by "consulting". Or in the firing or replacing of editors and writers who ask the question, "how involved was Dr. So-n-so with the actual studies?"

This is a billion dollar business and as Steven Pressfield said on p.26 of his book, The War of Art:

"Our boss used to tell us: Invent a disease. Come up with the disease, he said, and we can sell the cure."

Eventually, the evidence, and ultimately the lawsuits, reach a point where a scapegoat is needed for public sacrifice. Usually, it's the guy who was on the inside:

"Dr. Reuben had been a paid speaker on behalf of Pfizer's medicines, and it paid for some of his research. "It is very disappointing to learn about Dr. Scott Reuben's alleged actions," Pfizer said in a statement. "When we decided to support Dr. Reuben's research, he worked for a credible academic medical center and appeared to be a reputable investigator." "

And, just as reasonably we aren't aware that we are breathing...

"Wyeth said it isn't aware of any financial relationship between the company and Dr. Reuben."

Unaware and proud of it.

"The retracted studies aren't expected to affect the drugs' regulatory status because Dr. Reuben's studies weren't part of the packages that manufacturers submitted to the FDA or European authorities."

Prestige has it's price but it also admits the sacrificial Plausible Denyability Clause that is in the small print when dancing on the wrong side of the line. If his studies we so unimportant, then why the kerfuffle to begin with? It's like saying the Federalist Papers had no influence on the Constitution because they weren't 'included' in the final package. Excuse me, but these were preliminary studies. Groundwork studies are almost always conducted at hospitals where the research is eventually constructed and conducted.

Burn him at the stake. But not for being accused of falsifying data that led to the sales of whole lines of pharms worth tens of millions. He deserves to be punished for being caught.

The Proposal

When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems
to happen is they reduce their staff and workers.  The remaining
workers need to find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that
their job would be eliminated as well.  Wall street, and the media
normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of "tough
decision", and his board of directors gives him a big bonus..

Our government should not be immune from similar risks.

Therefore: Reduce the House of Representatives from the current 435
members to 218 members and Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per
State). Also reduce remaining staff by 25%.

Accomplish this over the next 8 years. (two steps / two elections) and
of course this would require some redistricting.

Some Yearly Monetary Gains Include:

$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X
$165,200 pay / member / yr.)

$97,175,000 for elimination of the above people's staff. (estimate
$1.3 Million in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Million in
staff per each member of the Senate every year)

$240,294 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (those
members whose jobs are gone. Current estimates for total government
pork earmarks are at $15 Billion / yr)

The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and would
need to improve efficiencies.  It might even be in their best
interests to work together for the good of our country?

We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more
efficient resolution of issues as well.  It might even be easier to
keep track of what your representative is doing.

Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in
1911 when the current number of representatives was established.
(telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few)

Note:
Congress did not hesitate to head home when it was a holiday, when the
nation needed a real fix to the economic problems.  Also, we had 3
senators that have not been doing their jobs for the past 18+ months
(on the campaign trail) and still they all have been accepting full
pay.  These facts alone support a reduction in senators & congress.

Summary of opportunity:

$ 44,108,400 reduction of congress members.

$282,100, 000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.

$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.

$59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.

$37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of
congress members..

$8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings. (that's 8-BILLION
just to start!)

Big business does these types of cuts all the time.

If Congresspersons were required to serve 20, 25 or 30 years (like
everyone else) in order to collect retirement benefits there is no
telling how much we would save. Now they get full retirement after
serving only ONE term.

Guess you heard that 68% of the youth vote went to Obama. My granddaughter called this morning to tell me she was one of them. I replied with this e-mail:


Dear Susan,
The election of Obama comes down to this. Your grandmother and I, your mother, and other productive, wage-earning tax payers will have their taxes increased and that means less income left over. Less income means we will have to cut back on basic purchases, gifts and handouts.

That includes firing the Hispanic lady who cleans our house twice a month. She just lost her job. We can't afford her anymore.

What is the economic effect of Obama's election on you personally? Over the years, your grandmother and I have given you thousands of dollars in food, housing, cash, clothing, gifts, etc. By your vote, you have chosen another family over ours for help. So in the future, if you need assistance with your rent, money for gas, tires for your car, someone to bring you lunch, etc. ... call  202-456-1111 . That's the telephone number for the Office of the President of the  United States . I'm sure Mr. Obama will be happy to send a check from his personal or business accounts, as we have, or leave cash in an envelope taped to his front door for you, as we have.

It's like this. Those who vote for the President of the  United States  should consider what the impact of an election will be on the nation as a whole and not just be concerned with what they can get for themselves (welfare, stimulus checks, etc.). What Obama voters don't seem to realize is that the government's money comes from taxes collected from tax paying families. Raising taxes on productive people means they will have less money to spend on their families.

Congratulations on your choice. For future reference, you might attempt to add up all you've received from us, your mom, Mike's parents and others and compare it to what you expect to get over the next four years from Mr. Obama.
