The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them..
The man bought thousands at $10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He next announced that he would now buy monkeys at $20 each. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so scarce it was an effort to even find a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50 each! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would buy on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers: "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has already collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."
The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys for 700 billion dollars.
They never saw the man or his assistant again, only lots and lots of monkeys!
Now you have a better understanding of how the WALL STREET BAILOUT PLAN WILL WORK !!!!
It doesn't get much clearer than this................
In Islam, cease fire translates: "Time to reload".
General Franks was right when he said regarding such Islamofacists, "They will have to be crushed".
Not talked to, appeased, or reasoned with. Not even the Obamessiah will be able to charm these animals who routinely murder innocent women and children. Not to mention their own wives and daughters.
Merry Christmas from Hamas, practitioners of the 'religion of peace'.
Update: After a few days of warnings by Olmert, the IDF is finally given power to respond.
Suddenly, to everyone's non-surprise, Israel becomes the focus of all meida attention because they have finally gone after Hamas. Hundreds of so-called journalists cut 'n paste the Al Jazeera propaganda from Palestine to showcase Israel's warmongering intolerance.
Where were all the reports when over six thousand missiles have been launched at Israel?
SIX THOUSAND is the conservative report and could go much higher.
This has been going on for over three years!
Murdering Islamo-fascists get free passes and Israel gets the blame.
This is an important teaching moment.
Remember, what advantage gained by youth and speed can be easily overcome by experience and treachery.
Things You Shouldn't Know:How To Beat Your Children At Computer Games
What is AlGore going to do now? I noticed that Nickelodeon has jumped on the global warming bandwagon with their 'Carbon Monsters' and around the world children have been encouraged to turn their parents in for ecological crimes.
Scientists, real ones that is, have been saying all along that it is sunspots activity that determines climate change. Otherwise, why would every planet in the solar system have corresponding trends with the earths?
Despite rising carbon dioxide levels, the Earth has actually been cooling -- not warming -- since 1998, when the warming trend peaked in conjunction with heightened sunspot activity.
It appears that 2008, the National Climatic Data Center now says, will go down as the coldest year in a decade.
So, what will the hack politicians, junk scientists, and watermelons (green on the outside, red inside) all have to say about this? "This just proves how serious this is", huh?
Read State of Fear by Michael Crichton. He has been predicting what these slimy, money grubbing, hacks will do next years ago.
I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.
Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section.
The angel then said to me, "This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them. "I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.
Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. "This is the Acknowledgment Section," my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed "How is it that there is no work going on here?" I asked.
"So sad," the angel sighed. "After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments ."
"How does one acknowledge God's blessings?" I asked.
"Simple," the angel answered. Just say, "Thank you, Lord."
"What blessings should they acknowledge?" I asked.
"If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy ."
"And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the world who has that opportunity."
"If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day ."
"If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ... you are ahead of 700 million people in the world."
"If you can attend a church without the fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion people in the world! ."
"If your parents are still alive and still married ...you are very rare ."
"If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you're unique to all those in doubt and despair."
Of all the billions and billions of God's children that have stood upon this earth you are among the tiniest of minorities who have ever lived.
Whatever race you hail from, living here at this time makes you very blessed.
When was the last time you just said, "Thanks, Lord".
Bush derangement syndrome is turned into an epidemic.
Thankfully, all the catawalling of the last eight years will mysteriously end while the Obamessiah calms the climate and brings peace to the world, (using virtually the same policies that Bush did).
Branding. It's all about branding nowdays.
Guilt by distant association.
Acting as if they did nothing wrong...
Pretty cool idea; the nanotubes are woven into a super thin fabric that is rapidly heated and cooled, thus causing sound to be emitted much like a little modulated thunderclap. This fabric can be stretched into a picture frame, or into a cylinder, or clothing.
How would you like your coat to be a loudspeaker? How would you like every teenager in 20 years to wear their favorite, most abrasive, sound.
As Andy McCasky says, "You have been warned".
All survey respondents were asked whether they have ever engaged in any of 13 different political and civic activities. These included, for example, registering to vote, signing a petition, contacting a public official, publishing a letter to the editor, and whether they have ever been elected to a government office.
Among the 2,508 respondents, 164 say they have been elected to a government office at least once. This sub-sample of officeholders yields a startling result: elected officials score lower than the general public. Those who have held elective office earn an average score of 44% on the civic literacy test, which is five percentage points lower than the average score of 49% for those who have never been elected. It would be most interesting to explore whether this statistically significant result is maintained across larger samples of elected officials.
The elected officeholders come from the ranks of Democrats (40%), Republicans (31%), Independents (21%), and those who say they belong to no party or indicate no affiliation (8%). None were asked to specify what office they held, so the proportion in which they held local, state, or federal positions is unknown.
Not all officeholders do poorly, of course. Some elected officials rank among the highest scorers. But the failure rate on the test among those who have won public office is higher (74%) than among those who have not (71%). Officeholders scored lower on all sub-themes of the test: political history, cultural institutions, foreign relations, and market economy.
In each of the following areas, for example, officeholders do more poorly than non-officeholders:
- Seventy-nine percent of those who have been elected to government office do not know the Bill of Rights expressly prohibits establishing an official religion for the U.S.
- Thirty percent do not know that "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" are the inalienable rights referred to in the Declaration of Independence.
- Twenty-seven percent cannot name even one right or freedom guaranteed by the First Amendment.
- Forty-three percent do not know what the Electoral College does. One in five thinks it either "trains those aspiring for higher political office" or "was established to supervise the first televised presidential debates."
- Fifty-four percent do not know the Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war. Thirty-nine percent think that power belongs to the president, and 10% think it belongs to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
- Only 32% can properly define the free enterprise system, and only 41% can identify business profit as "revenue minus expenses."
Take the quiz
Far from the truth. It turns out that Prop8 was not only popular on both sides of the aisle, but overwhelmingly so.
Here are the final stats that place Prop8 as more popular than Schwarzenegger, Feinstein, and Boxer, let alone Kerry and Obama.
The official Statement of the Vote has been released by the Secretary of State. Proposition 8 passed by a margin of 52.3% to 47.7%. We won by a margin of 600,000 votes: 7,001,084 to 6,401,483. To provide some context for this vote:
- Prop. 8 received 2,150,000 MORE votes than did Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was reelected in 2006
- Prop. 8 received nearly 2 million MORE votes than Dianne Feinstein did when she was reelected to the US Senate in 2006
- Prop. 8 received 250,000 MORE votes than did John Kerry when he carried California in 2004
- Prop. 8 received 45,000 MORE votes than did Barbara Boxer in her landslide reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2004
- Prop. 8 passed with approximately the same percentage of the vote that Barack Obama received nationally
Of course, nobody ever explores the consistency that such events take place. That's too much work.
Hmm. Greater Bombay forms one of the world's five biggest cities. It has a population of nearly 20 million. But only one Jewish center, located in a building that gives no external clue as to the bounty waiting therein. An "accidental hostage scene" that one of the "practitioners" just happened to stumble upon? "I must be the luckiest jihadist in town. What are the odds?"
In Steyn's article, he points out that Jews in India were either targeted, or this was the greatest instance of happenstance known to man.
At the Chabad House, the murdered Jews were described in almost all the Western media as "ultra-Orthodox," "ultra-" in this instance being less a term of theological precision than a generalized code for "strange, weird people, nothing against them personally, but they probably shouldn't have been over there in the first place." Are they stranger or weirder than their killers? Two "inflamed moderates" entered the Chabad House, shouted "Allahu Akbar!," tortured the Jews and murdered them, including the young Rabbi's pregnant wife. Their two-year-old child escaped because of a quick-witted (non-Jewish) nanny who hid in a closet and then, risking being mown down by machine-gun fire, ran with him to safety.
Then there's that jackass, Deepak Blames America
Word, Deepak: more enemas, less lecturing. Your new age mumbo-jumbo is just wamed over paganism mingled with psycho-babble.
At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail.
There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell.
There is only our natural world.
Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.
The reason the Book of Mormon speaks to this American people is to make aware of the tricks the deceivers will pull. It is important that people read all of Alma 30 to get the full meaning of a Secularist's attack on God, why and how.
Starting with priestcraft, Alma 14:32 For those who did not belong to their church did indulge themselves in asorceries, and in bidolatry or cidleness, and in dbabblings, and in eenvyings and fstrife; wearing costly apparel; being glifted up in the pride of their own eyes; persecuting, lying, thieving, robbing, committing whoredoms, and murdering, and all manner of wickedness; nevertheless, the law was put in force upon all those who did transgress it, inasmuch as it was possible.
And on to anti-Christ, Korihor outlines a doctrine well traveled by the secularists:
Alma 30:13 O ye that are bound down under a afoolish and a vain hope, why do ye yoke yourselves with such foolish things? Why do ye look for a Christ?
B. Prove there is a god.
For no man can bknow of anything which is to come.
C. You have to be crazy to believe in god.
14 Behold, these things which ye call prophecies, which ye say are handed down by holy prophets, behold, they are foolish traditions of your fathers.
15 How do ye know of their surety? Behold, ye cannot know of things which ye do not asee; therefore ye cannot know that there shall be a Christ.
C. You have to be crazy to believe in god.
16 Ye look forward and say that ye see a remission of your sins. But behold, it is the effect of a afrenzied mind; and this derangement of your minds comes because of the traditions of your fathers, which lead you away into a belief of things which are not so.
D. The Secularist's hallmark rationalization: Moral Relativism.
... every man afared in this life according to the management of the creature; therefore every man prospered according to his genius, and that every man conquered according to his strength; and bwhatsoever a man did was cno crime.
E. Finally, accusing good men of the Secularist agenda.
31 And he did rise up in great aswelling words before Alma, and did revile against the bpriests and teachers, accusing them of leading away the people after the silly traditions of their fathers, for the sake of glutting on the labors of the people.
CAMP SALERNO, Afghanistan — A 19-year-old medic from Texas will become the first woman in Afghanistan and only the second female soldier since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest medal for valor.
Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province in April 2007, the military said.
After the explosion, which wounded five soldiers in her unit, Brown ran through insurgent gunfire and used her body to shield wounded comrades as mortars fell less than 100 yards away, the military said.
"I did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there," Brown told The Associated Press on Saturday at a U.S. base in the eastern province of Khost.
Brown, of Lake Jackson, Texas, is scheduled to receive the Silver Star later this month. She was part of a four-vehicle convoy patrolling near Jani Kheil in the eastern province of Paktia on April 25, 2007, when a bomb struck one of the Humvees.
"We stopped the convoy. I opened up my door and grabbed my aid bag," Brown said.
She started running toward the burning vehicle as insurgents opened fire. All five wounded soldiers had scrambled out.
"I assessed the patients to see how bad they were. We tried to move them to a safer location because we were still receiving incoming fire," Brown said.
"I did not really have time to be scared," Brown said. "Running back to the vehicle, I was nervous (since) I did not know how badly the guys were injured. That was scary."The military said Brown's "bravery, unselfish actions and medical aid rendered under fire saved the lives of her comrades and represents the finest traditions of heroism in combat.
Read the 60 Minutes interview
Of course, it should be mentioned that THIS IS A 60 MINUTES INTERVIEW and Logan will take swipes at the Army and imply all sorts of things, but the heart of the story is that this girl did her job, did it with excellence, and saved lives. Stories about American exceptionalism need to be told to all the nattering naysayers in the media today.
Lots of big people books out there, come on in! the water's great.
Her story is one of courage, selflessness, and charity. Things people of faith value.

"When Endeavour astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper dropped her toolbag during a spacewalk on Nov. 18th and it floated away, mission controllers probably figured they'd seen the last of it. Think again. Last night, Nov. 22nd, veteran satellite observer Kevin Fetter video-recorded the backpack-sized bag gliding over his backyard observatory in Brockville, Ontario. "It was easily 8th magnitude or brighter as it passed by the 4th magnitude star eta Pisces," he says. Spaceweather's satellite tracker is monitoring the toolbag."
This little slip of the gloves has produced something phenomenal, "The Amazing Orbiting Toolbag".

Obama Daschles Hopes of Pro-Lifers
On an even more sinister note, it looks like the Dems are getting their way on abortion (infanticide) and are vigorously pursuing an agenda that will put the number of infanticides in America at almost fifty million by early 2009. Their goal is a 2020 number of one hundred million.
Since many states will not report these figures estimates could be shy, but not generous.
Calif. Supreme Court to take up gay marriage ban
What is really deceitful in this article, is this photo. The caption reads:
Let's see, ManBLA, the Man-Boy-Love-Association. We 'intolerant' folk used to call them pedophiles. Then there are the 'animal lovers' I can't even describe this one without barfing -- beastiality. Or, is that all under queer?
And, as the tolerant ones, they have already destroyed property, harassed, threatened, and disrupted the lives of us 'intolerant Christians'.

Here's a great quote:
"Burn their f---ing churches to the ground, and then tax the charred timbers," insisted the popular Web site and blog, JoeMyGod. One poster listed the addresses of local Mormon churches, writing, "I do not openly advocate firebombing or vandalism. What you do with the information is your own choice."
This from Boston. http://www.dailycollegian.com/home/index.cfm?event=displayArticlePrinterFriendly&uStory_id=6737dcb0-a1b4-4e5b-9010-878f62ee1cfd
Their replacements sought to shift voter support for Prop 8 by pouring millions of dollars into television and radio buys aimed at convincing California voters that support for traditional marriage was the equivalent of Japanese internment camps. They went so far as to compare Yes on 8 voters to bigots.
They were ultimately stunned that California voters saw past their deceptive ads and voted to once again uphold the definition of marriage to be between a man and a woman. Ethnic communities, those who have truly been affected by civil rights issues, turned out to vote Yes – African Americans alone supported the measure by more than 2 to 1.
It is true that the Yes on 8 campaign ran a better campaign. We raised important issues, our messages appealed to voters and we had a volunteer army that was unprecedented in California history. But just as the best farmer cannot raise crops in the barren desert, our campaign, no matter how well run, could not have succeeded if there were not still a deep well of respect for the sacred institution of marriage. And for that, the voters in their wisdom deserve the credit.
Sacramento Bee Editorial: No on 8 Supporters Cross the Line that Separates Civil Protest from Harassment
The editorial summarizes the opposition's actions, citing that, "Angry opponents of Proposition 8 are targeting businesses and individuals who contributed money to the "yes" campaign. Vandals have hit churches that supported the initiative. Sparked by the speed and reach of the Internet, supporters of gay and lesbian rights are organizing protests from California to Salt Lake City, the home of the Mormon Church."
And while the editorial takes a sympathetic approach to the opposition's protests, saying their "charged reaction is understandable," it does not justify that by "venting their anger and in exercising their right to challenge Proposition 8, some opponents risk crossing the line that separates civil protest from harassment. And by crossing that line, they undermine the message that some gay and lesbian leaders are trying to impart: that everyone's rights should be respected."
The editorial went on to acknowledge that the No on 8 campaign has not adequately addressed the acts of violence and harassment undertaken by their supporters, saying that "a lone statement" on their Web site asking supporters to not isolate those who oppose their views is simply not enough.
USA Today published an article Nov.13, in which Sir Elton John spoke about his position on Proposition 8. John clarified his position on Prop 8 while attending the annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. He was accompanied by his longtime partner David Furnish, whom he joined in a civil union in 2005. John was quoted as saying, "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage."
John went on to emphasize that civil unions grant same-sex couples the same rights afforded to married heterosexual couples. He stated, "I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership…the word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships."

In the aftermath of the recent election, we may find ourselves oddly on the defensive regarding our support for the Yes on Proposition 8 cause. Our young people have been especially subject to mean spirited comments by high school friends and teachers. We have nothing to be ashamed of. We did nothing wrong. In fact, we did everything that a civic minded American can and should do. I have put together a few facts that help me to appreciate our position better. For example:
1. Mormons make up less than 2% of the population of California. There are approximately 800,000 LDS out of a total population of approximately 34 million.
2. Mormon voters were less than 5% of the yes vote. If one estimates that 250,000 LDS are registered voters (the rest being children), then LDS voters made up 4.6% of the Yes vote and 2.4% of the total Proposition 8 vote.
3. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) donated no money to the Yes on 8 campaign. Individual members of the Church were encouraged to support the Yes on 8 efforts and, exercising their constitutional right to free speech, donated whatever they felt like donating.
4. The No on 8 campaign raised more money than the Yes on 8 campaign. Unofficial estimates put No on 8 at $38 million and Yes on 8 at $32 million, making it the most expensive non-presidential election in the country.
5. Advertising messages for the Yes on 8 campaign are based on case law and real-life situations. The No on 8 supporters have insisted that the Yes on 8 messaging is based on lies. Every Yes on 8 claim is supported.
6. The majority of our friends and neighbors voted Yes on 8. Los Angeles County voted in favor of Yes on 8. Ventura County voted in favor of Yes on 8.
7. African Americans overwhelmingly supported Yes on 8. Exit polls show that 70% of Black voters chose Yes on 8. This was interesting because the majority of these voters voted for President-elect Obama. No on 8 supporters had assumed that Obama voters would vote No on 8.
8. The majority of Latino voters voted Yes on 8. Exit polls show that the majority of Latinos supported Yes on 8 and cited religious beliefs (assumed to be primarily Catholic).
9. The Yes on 8 coalition was a broad spectrum of religious organizations. Catholics, Evangelicals, Protestants, Orthodox Jews, Muslims – all supported Yes on 8. It is estimated that there are 10 million Catholics and 10 million Protestants in California. Mormons were a tiny fraction of the population represented by Yes on 8 coalition members.
10. Not all Mormons voted in favor of Proposition 8. Our faith accords that each person be allowed to choose for him or her self. Church leaders have asked members to treat other members with "civility, respect and love," despite their differing views.
11. The Church did not violate the principal of separation of church and state. This principle is derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." The phrase "separation of church and state", which does not appear in the Constitution itself, is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson, although it has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court in recent years. The LDS Church is under no obligation to refrain from participating in the political process, to the extent permitted by law. U.S. election law is very clear that Churches may not endorse candidates, but may support issues. The Church as always been very careful on this matter and occasionally (not often) chooses to support causes that it feels to be of a moral nature.
12. Supporters of Proposition 8 did exactly what the Constitution provides for all citizens: they exercised their First Amendment rights to speak out on an issue that concerned them, make contributions to a cause that they support, and then vote in the regular electoral process. For the most part, this seems to have been done in an open, fair, and civil way. Opponents of 8 have accused supporters of being bigots, liars, and worse. The fact is, we simply did what Americans do – we spoke up, we campaigned, and we voted.
